Raven by LiquidFaeStudios Raven by LiquidFaeStudios
Inspiration finally hit me a couple days ago, so in return I beat the crap out of it with a paint brush. maybe this is why it doesn't like to visit me so often anymore? Its hard to say really...

Had lots of fun with this one. I don't really know whhhhyyy shes got random bird wings coming out form behind her head. but I didnt question the inspiration and just went with it....

My new watercolor paper SUCKS up water like nobodies business. which makes for easy textures but it is SOOO unforgiving if you make a mistake. LOL

I abused my new tube of Panes Gray in this painting... lol.

She is very beautiful, I think because of color scheme i would rather think of an ice princess or a pearl then of a raven :-) I like how you did her beautiful flowing hair and the frame looks so delicate the same as the girl:heart:

that part of the reason I think its so neat. those black splotches behind her you see are in the vague shape of wings and ravens :D For me its kind of like a whole "appearances can be deceiving" kind of idea. She appears one way, but behind her she is accented by a different feeling.. if that makes any sense at all LOL

This looks gorgeous! I love the intricate border, and the simple but elegant lines/colour all throughout it.

What paper do you use?

normally I use canson or strathmore 140lb cold press, but I bought CHEEEEEEEP paper last time I was out (30 pages 12x18 inches)for only 20 bucks, and it didnt look or feel cheep so I couldn't resist. Its 50% recycled 140lb cold press by canson called something like Canson XL (cuz its an extra large pad i guess?) The paper is nice but it has a few quirks as does any new paper. it is very smooth, like illustration board and does not have the usual watercolor paper texture. the grain is small and it peels easily if roughed up too much, that and removing masking tape take surgical precision. masking fluid is a no-go with it, it would just tear it up. BUT, I do like it for some purposes - particularly it makes a great printer friendly paper to print high quality prints on!

it was an experamental purchase, one that i would likely make again for one reason or another when this one runs out. But for big projects that I would need to do some color lifting on I would certainly go back to using higher quality papers. Otherwise its still good, acid free and made by canson :p

Intriguing I may have to do some more experimentation...Like reteaching myself how to draw, I was heavily influenced by Anime and manga and a week in the hospital completely killed my creativity so I figure it would be the best if I just relearned

It's very pretty.
Did you use a masking fluid for the borders?
